On 105 steam locomotives of the group 470 FS in the 1918 was applied a special over heater of steam, so the power of engine passed from 1000 to 1170 HP and the numeration was changed into 471 Group.

From the 1929 on the Gr. 471 (ex 470) was applied also new cylinder AP, with new diameter 400mm and not 375mm ( bigger, in fact also into the Gr. 470 FS Top-Train model the cylinders are bigger then Gr. 470 FS model).

The tender with 3 axles of 20m3 was originally used on the FS 680 and 730 then used on FS 471 group

The Group 471 were born from Gr. 470
The power was increased from 1000 to 1170 CV with over heated steam and double expansion .
The old cab of Gr. 470 and 471.122 was substituted by an “open cab” same used in the Gr. 740 and some Gr. 470 was turned into Gr. 471 FS.
